Commissions

Commissioning an artwork is a special way to create a work specific for you and your needs. My commissioned pieces include painting, illustration, lino printing and mixed media. I take a collaborative approach with clients on commissions, working directly with you on inspiration, vision and imagery and throughout the commission process.

Commission process

1. Commission brief

Provide a clear description of what you are looking for.  This ensures I have a great sense of what you are seeking from the work visually and within any broader context.

Consider the following:

  • What do you want the artwork to achieve? Is there a specific space the artwork will go? Is there particular meaning or context you would like the artwork to embody?

  • What inspirational images would you like to be considered in the artwork? For example, particular flowers, a favourite pattern, theme etc.

  • Are there any previous examples of my work that you like?

  • What medium are you seeking - painting, lino print, illustration or mixed media?

  • Are there any colours or tones you like or colours you dislike?

  • What is the approximate size of the work?

  • Would you like the finished work to be framed or unframed?

You can provide these details via my contact page and I will arrange a call with you to discuss further.

2. Quotation and agreement

Once we have established a clear brief, I will provide you with a detailed Art Commission Quotation including artwork specifications and an expected delivery timeframe. If both parties are happy to proceed on the basis of the Art Commission Quotation, I will request a 20% deposit to be paid ahead of commencement of the work. The Art Commission Quotation will form the basis of the Art Commission Agreement.

3. Progress checks

Throughout the process I will typically check in with you twice.

  • The first check in will occur earlier in the process as I develop the artwork composition to ensure the work in progress is in line with your expectations.

  • The second check in will occur once the work is nearing completion to seek any final feedback before finishing the artwork.

Specific progress checks and check in expectations will be confirmed as part of the Art Commission Agreement.

4. Finished work proof

Photographs of the final work will be supplied upon its completion, prior to shipping. Once I receive confirmation that the work has been completed to your satisfaction, the remaining 80% commission balance will be due and your work will be framed (if requested) and shipped. I will notify you once the work has been shipped with tracking details. Shipping costs and framing costs (if applicable) will be provided for in your Artwork Commission Quote, and your artwork will be supplied ready to hang.

5. Delivery

When your artwork arrives, please inspect it thoroughly to ensure it matches your request, and that it arrives damage-free. I love seeing clients with their new works in-situ, so please send a photo of the artwork installed in its new home, or tag me on Instagram.
